My School idea: Pop-up Vegan Restaurants

My School Idea : Raphela High School in  Orange Farm South Of Johannesburg

The reality in South Africa is that the majority of people are living on a diet which is monotonous and nutritionally inadequate even in summer because Supermarkets charge high prices and markets that produce fresh food (fruits and vegetables) are located far away and transport is not easily accessible. This has lead consumers to form a strong relationship with street vendors.

My school idea to succeed will depend upon the willingness of SA schools to form partnerships with fresh food market produces like the Jo burg Market to assist schools to buy their fresh food in groups (bulk) in order to get discounts. SA schools need also to use their school yards to grow vegetables, because agriculture should be the primary target to alleviate poverty, malnutrition and diseases.

Albert Einstein once said, “Nothing will benefit human health and increase chances for survival of life on Earth as much as a revolution to vegetarian diet”

That’s why we intend to establish a new street eating culture in our Township. We’ve identified that the best sources of healthy food in our communities are street corners or vendors not malls. That’s why we intended to establish pop-up vegan restaurants to shift old Township street eating culture from Chessa Nyama(Pap and meat) to innovate affordable vegan gourmet food quickly served.

Pop-up Vegan Restaurants will sms/use twitter and facebook to keep people updated as to which street corner or public meeting space will pop-up next and the menu for a day.

Our competitive advantage will sell vegan plates cheaper than (Pap & Meat) and will initiate vegan chef schools competition to create hype and interest in our community.
